About me

Mr Mario J Saldanha is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. He graduated from medical school in 1996 and has more than 20 years of experience in ophthalmology, having worked in a variety of eminent ophthalmic centres in the UK and internationally. Mr Saldanha also holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer position with Cardiff University.

Mr Saldanha completed a prestigious fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at the University of Toronto, where he helped pioneer the technique of Corneal Transplantation, Lamellar Keratoplasty (DMEK) through keyhole access.

He is the only corneal sub-specialist providing expertise to the residents of Swansea Bay and Hywel D health boards.

He offers Cataract Surgery, Corneal transplants and Cross-linking for keratoconus using the accelerated cross-linking protocol.

Mr Saldanha is a member of various national and international ophthalmic societies and has been invited to teach corneal and transplantation techniques at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the European Board of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He has contributed numerous chapters and articles in academic textbooks and journals, and has recently been invited to join the board of the UKISCRS (The UK's Cataract and Refractive Society) and the BSRS (British Society of Refractive Surgeons).

He is also appointed examiner for the Refractive Surgery Examinations at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.
