About me
Mr On specialises in the management of colorectal cancers and complex polyps, offering robotic, laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgical options that aim to reduce recovery times and improve outcomes. His proficiency also extends to diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy including polypectomy and endoscopic submucosal dissection (EMR). He also offers the Transanal Minimally Invasive Surgery (TAMIS) approach for rectal polyps. His other interests includes the management of non-cancerous bowel conditions such as diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease and benign proctology including haemorrhoids, anal fissures and perianal fistulas. He also offers surgical treatments for abdominal wall and groin hernias and the removal of benign lumps.
Mr On's commitment to medical excellence is reflected in his role as the clinical lead for quality performance in the colorectal unit and his oversight of the colorectal cancer vetting pathway at his hospital. His leadership ensures that patients receive care that meets the highest standards of safety and effectiveness.
A dedicated educator, Mr On holds a diploma in medical education from the University of Dundee. He actively contributes to the teaching and training of future medical professionals by providing educational and clinical supervision for surgical trainees, medical students, physician associate students and surgical first assistants. He also serves as a faculty member on various surgical courses not limited to but including the internationally renowned European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) minimally invasive colorectal surgery course. He was also the co-organiser for innovative training events such as the first robotics colorectal cadaveric course in Aberdeen. In addition, he sits on both the shortlisting and interview panel for the national selection of higher surgical trainees as well as on the panel for the annual review of competence for surgeons in training, ensuring the highest standards in surgical education and practice. He also supervises final year medical students in the University of Aberdeen on their medical electives, overlooking their projects to completion.
Mr. On also actively contributes to medical research with several publications in esteemed surgical journals. He is the local lead principal investigator for the LaCeS2 trial, local co-principal investigator for the EXTEND trial, and co-investigator for the NAIAD study.
