Mr Jason Ali is a consultant cardiac surgeon at Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge. He sees insured and self-funding adult patients for heart bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery and surgery of the aorta, with consultations face to face or by video.
He has been a consultant at Royal Papworth since 2022 and operates across the full range of adult cardiac surgery. His main clinical interests are:
• Coronary artery bypass grafting (heart bypass surgery)
• Aortic valve replacement, including aortic root enlargement where needed
• Surgery for a dilated ascending aorta
• Second opinions on whether, when and how to operate

In 2026 he was appointed Clinical Director for Postoperative Cardiothoracic Pathways at Royal Papworth.
He graduated in medicine from the University of Cambridge with Distinction in 2008. A Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship funded his PhD in transplantation immunology, and he also holds a Master's in Medical Education. Mr Ali has published more than 140 papers, cited over 3,000 times. He sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic Disease and is Associate Editor for the Best Evidence Topics section of Interdisciplinary CardioVascular and Thoracic Surgery.
