About me

I am Hani Nasef an ENT surgeon with extensive expertise in the management of head and neck cancers, as well as thyroid and parathyroid surgery.

I received my basic and advanced ENT training in one of the biggest university hospitals in Egypt. There, we managed all ENT, head and neck, and skull base conditions. I was also involved in different research projects in the department.

In Egypt, I have completed my Master's and PhD degrees. I was appointed as a consultant and lecturer at Alexandria University Hospital.

I had 2 advanced head and neck fellowships; 1 in Italy and the other in the UK. In Italy, I worked under the tutelage of Prof Piero Nicolai, the well-known head and neck skull base expert, where I learned the management of advanced and complex head and neck cancer and skull base cases. Also, I have dealt with many thyroid and parathyroid cases.

I passed my FRCS examination in April 2019.

My areas of interest and expertise are head and neck cancers, salivary glands, skin cancer, laser surgery of voice box, thyroid and parathyroid disorders. I also have good experience in the management of anterior skull base conditions.

Currently, I am working as ENT head and neck consultant in a busy ENT department in Portsmouth Hospital University. I am a member of head and neck and thyroid cancer MDTs. We manage more than 250 head and neck cancer cases every year, and we perform more than 300 thyroid and parathyroid operations per year. I am a member of the Joint Parathyroid Clinic, which sees and treats over 150 patients annually with parathyroid disease. I use the latest surgical technology, including Intraoperative nerve monitoring with continuous vagal stimulation, parathyroid auto-fluorescence, and rapid access parathyroid hormone testing.
I do more than 120 thyroid and parathyroid operations every year. Almost all of them have no complications.
I have done more than 130 parathyroid operations, with more than 98% success rate. I deal with all types of hyperparathyroidism; including genetic and normo-Calcemic conditions. I have good experience in unilateral targeted parathyroid adenoma excision as well as bilateral parathyroid explorations.

I have published many articles during my career. As a department, we have been involved in many clinical trials about thyroid, parathyroid, and head and neck cancer.

I have an interest in medical research, I believe that research is an essential part of medical practice, Medical research in head and neck surgery is vital for advancing patient care, improving surgical outcomes, and enhancing the understanding of complex anatomical and pathological conditions in this region. It also helps surgeons develop innovative techniques, refine existing procedures, and discover minimally invasive approaches that reduce recovery times, reduce the chance of complications, and improve the quality of life for patients. Studies on cancer treatments, and reconstructive surgery pave the way for personalized care and targeted therapies. Furthermore, research fosters collaboration across disciplines, integrating technological advances, such as robotics and imaging, to optimize precision and effectiveness.

In my Master's degree, I did a research project on ear infection and cholesteatoma, I finished in 2011 and it was published later in a peer-reviewed journal

For my PhD degree, I did a research project on laryngeal cancer, I finished it in 2016, and it was published in a high-ranked medical journal
