About me
I qualified from Glasgow University with honours in medicine in 1997. I also undertook a BSc in Immunology and achieved a 1st class honours. My post graduate training was in the west of Scotland and a year in Western Australia.
I was appointed as a consultant physician in general and respiratory medicine at the University Hospital Wishaw, NHS Lanarkshire in 2009. I look after general medical and respiratory inpatients and participate regularly in the acute medical on call rota. Within respiratory medicine, my special interests include asthma, COPD and sleep apnoea disease diagnosis. I have experience in all respiratory disorders including bronchiectasis, lung cancer and interstitial lung disease and regularly look after patients with these conditions on the wards and in outpatients
I undertook a PhD in asthma immunology with the support of a Medical Research Council research fellowship. After being appointed as a consultant, I was awarded a NHS Research Scotland Fellowship which has facilitated my clinical research in airways disease and lung cancer screening. I have been the principal investigator -PI - in clinical trials in COPD and asthma and during COVID-19 was PI in several COVID-19 trials including RECOVERY and PHOSP-COVID. This has led to several publications.
Outside of medicine I enjoy cycling, skiing and running.
