About me

Dr James Jack is a leading Consultant in Anaesthetics and Pain Medicine practising in London, Sutton and Ashtead. He is an expert in managing chronic pain, specialising in back pain, chronic headaches, chronic facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia), chronic joint pains, painful neuropathies such as post shingles nerve pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), and other functional pains such as fibromyalgia.

Dr Jack graduated with distinction from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Medical School. He also completed an integrated Bsc in Aerospace Physiology, achieving first class honours, and was awarded both the Pembury Prize in Physiology and the SAFE Europe award.

He completed his Anaesthetic training in Surrey, Sussex and London, with the exception of a year at the Toronto Western Hospital, Ontario, Canada, completing their prestigious Regional Anaesthesia Fellowship. He undertook his Pain Training at St Thomas', Epsom and St Helier, and St George's Hospitals in London.

He is a Fellow of both the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Faculty of Pain Medicine, has numerous academic publications and is the recipient of Research Grants from the Association of Anaesthetists.

In addition to his NHS practice he sees patients at St Anthony's Hospital Sutton, Ashtead Hospital Epsom, and London Bridge Hospital. In his clinics, Dr Jack provides his patients with pain-relieving treatments for the head, neck, face, shoulder, elbow, wrists, hands, rib, abdomen, back, hip, tailbone, knee, ankle, and foot. Dr Jack employs innovative techniques such as radiofrequency denervation, pulsed radiofrequency neuromodulation, cryotherapy, ultrasound-guided injections, and targeted injections to relieve pain for his patients. He is a keen educator and is involved in educating student Doctors, Nurses and other colleagues about pain medicine. Dr Jack uses a Biopsychosocial model to provide patient-centred care to all of his patients.

Pain can have a huge impact on one's life, and Dr Jack has a first hand experience of it. In 2016 he experienced a slipped disc which almost resulted in emergency surgery. The excruciating pain and leg weakness he experienced during his 1.5 year long recovery gave him an in depth personal understanding of chronic pain and the impact it has, an experience which he uses to better understand and care for his patients.
