About me

I am a qualified psychotherapist and psychotherapeutic counsellor, accredited by the UK Council for Psychotherapy. I offer therapy for adults, either online or in-person from my room in Newcastle upon Tyne city centre. Whatever is bringing you to therapy, I hope that I can help.

Life can be challenging in all sorts of ways, and sometimes it's a struggle to cope. There may be a specific issue you're having difficulty dealing with, or perhaps you've noticed complex problems that have been with you for some time. This might include anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship problems or something else that's troubling you.

Many people find it useful to have a space to talk about all of this and work through it with someone who will listen - and that's what I'm here for.

I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can explore what's bothering you and gain insight into this. I will listen, and work with you to find a way through it. I won't tell you what to do, but I will give you the space to find a solution that's right for you and support you to work towards it.

I believe awareness and understanding of your problems are the first steps towards taking control of your life, healing from traumatic experiences, and ultimately feeling more positive.

I aim to help clients find ways to manage in the short term, while tackling the root causes of their difficulties for a better outcome in the long term. Because everyone who comes to therapy is different, I work in a humanistic, integrative way, focusing on what is right for you as an individual.

In particular, I find it rewarding to work with clients experiencing self-esteem and self-worth issues. This can include feeling generally 'not good enough', extreme self-criticism, social anxiety, self-loathing and feelings of failure, worthlessness and shame. I have found that my approach is often very effective in helping such clients find ways to value and accept themselves.

I am also interested in helping clients manage OCD and other anxiety conditions using an approach called RF-ERP (rumination-focused exposure and response prevention). I completed training in this technique with Dr Michael J Greenberg, and I find it to be beneficial for many clients.

I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is at the heart of good counselling, so it's important to find a therapist that's right for you. I offer a free initial phone call so that we can be introduced and you can get an idea of how I work. After this, I offer an initial assessment session so I can understand what's bringing you to therapy in more detail, and so that we can both see if we may be a good fit. There is no obligation to continue the therapy if you decide you don't want to do so.

I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, on a weekly basis. Some people find a few sessions is enough to help them deal with their issue, and for others long-term work might be more suitable. This is something we will discuss between us, to make a decision that works best for you.

I completed extensive counselling and psychotherapy training over five years. In that time I obtained an MSc in Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Psychotherapy, a Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Studies.

The core model I trained in is Transactional Analysis (TA), and this forms the basis of my approach, but I also use techniques from other therapeutic schools to help me tailor the counselling to each person I work with. This includes Gestalt therapy, cognitive behavioural approaches, RF-ERP (rumination-focused exposure and response prevention), existential counselling, and relational psychotherapy.
