About me
Hello, it's good to meet you. I understand that looking for a therapist can feel confusing and overwhelming. I hope the information below might help to answer some of your initial questions. If you would like to know more or discuss anything in more detail, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'm always here and happy to speak over the phone, video call, email, or in person, whatever's most helpful for you.
A bit about my role and what I can offer you
To begin with, it might be helpful to know a bit about my role and what I can offer you. I am a registered Clinical Psychologist (reg: PYL043389) with The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), which means I am trained to doctoral level to deliver evidence-based or research informed therapy from a variety of therapeutic models. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and "third-wave" CBT approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Attachment-Based therapy, Narrative and Systemic Therapies. I often interweave Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic theory to support a client's deeper knowledge and understanding of their difficulties where necessary.
You can find more information about these therapies further down.
In addition, I am a registered Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist (membership number: 00001017694) accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). My additional BABCP accreditation ensures delivery of highly specialised CBT and third-wave approaches where needed.
I currently work part-time in the NHS and part-time in private practice.
Having received extensive training in this way, I can offer or combine a range of therapies, selecting aspects of different therapy models that will be most helpful to you, and subsequently tailoring therapy to your individual needs.
Of course, there are many different reasons why people experience low mood, stress, anxiety, self-doubt and self-criticism. Starting therapy can be a courageous step towards learning about and healing from past experiences. My therapeutic approach is centred around the idea that our life experiences, cultural, diverse, and possible neurodiverse (eg., ASD, ADHD) backgrounds shape the views we hold about ourselves, others and the world around us, affecting how we think, behave and interact day-to-day. Initially, we might work together to help you make sense of your past experiences, to understand how they may have impacted you, and how they might be keeping you stuck or maintaining the current difficulties. From here, the healing process can begin, and change and new ways of coping, thinking and being can start to grow.
My intention is to create a safe space and, through building a strong therapeutic relationship, provide a platform that enables you to develop useful coping skills, and empowers you to reach your full potential whilst living a more meaningful and connected life.
Everyone's needs are different coming into therapy. I aim to work with a person for as long as it is helpful, empowering them to leave therapy with the skills they need.
