About me

Dr Lisa Hyland is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine working within the NHS, elite sport, and private practice. She qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2008, completed a Master's in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2011, and gained her General Practitioner membership in 2014. With extensive experience, she manages muscle, ligament, cartilage, and tendon injuries in both elite and recreational athletes across various sports, as well as work- and age-related conditions. Her expertise includes the management of:
-Shoulder pain
- Elbow pain
- Wrist and hand pain
- Neck and back pain
- Hip pain
- Knee pain
- Ankle and foot pain

Dr Hyland has a keen interest in the use of diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections for the assessment and management of a range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. She is experienced in managing tendinopathy, athlete and women's health, childhood and adolescent illness and injury, osteoarthritis, and joint preservation techniques, including injection therapies with corticosteroids, platelet-rich plasma, prolotherapy, and hyaluronic acid.

Dr Hyland has an extensive background in elite sport and currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer for Great Britain Archery at the UK Sports Institute, leading the medical care for able-bodied and para-athletes and those who competed in the Paris 2024 Olympics. She also holds the position of Chief Medical Officer for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and provides competition and camp support to UK Athletics and the FA disability football squads.

Her previous roles include working as a sports doctor for England Netball, British Gymnastics, UK Ultimate Frisbee, Wales Women's Football, and Aston Villa Women's Football Club. She has also supported Team GB at the European Youth Olympics 2023, Team Wales at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, and provided medical care for British University and College Sports, the School Games, and Team GB athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024.

She is proud to have trained in Centres of Excellence, including the Royal London Hospital, Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand, and the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham. She undertook a four-year specialist training programme in Sport and Exercise Medicine in the West Midlands and practices across the Midlands. She also completed ultrasound training and holds a postgraduate certificate in MSK ultrasound.

Dr Hyland is deeply committed to conducting comprehensive assessments that consider a patient's overall well-being, utilising advanced techniques such as ultrasound and injections. She empowers patients by providing a clear understanding of their conditions and equipping them with the knowledge and tools to manage their health effectively. Her holistic approach not only guides individuals towards improved well-being but also inspires them to pursue stronger, healthier, and fitter lives - helping them achieve their aspirations and dreams.
