About me
Dr Lisa Hyland is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine working within the NHS, elite sport and privately. She qualified from the University of Nottingham in 2008, completed a Masters in Sports and Exercise Medicine in 2011 and gained her General Practitioner membership in 2014. She is experienced in managing muscle, ligament, cartilage and tendon injuries in elite and recreational athletes from various sports, she also manages work- and age-related injuries.
Dr Hyland has a keen interest in the use of diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections for the assessment and management of a range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal conditions. She has experience in the management of tendinopathy, athlete and women's health, childhood and adolescence illness and injury, osteoarthritis and joint preservation techniques including injection therapy with corticosteroid, platelet rich plasma, prolotherapy and hyaluronic acid.
Dr Hyland has extensive experience working in elite sport and is the Chief Medical Officer for Great Britain Archery at the UK Sports Institute leading the medical care for able bodied and para-athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics 2024. She recently attended the European Athletics Championships with UK Athletics and she supports England Disability squads as a camp doctor. She has worked for England Netball, British Gymnastics, UK Ultimate Frisbee, Wales Women's Football and Aston Villa Women's Football Club. She has worked as a sports doctor for Team GB at European Youth Olympics 2023, Team Wales at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022, British University and College Sports and School Games and provided medical care for Team GB athletes at the Paris Olympics 2024.
She is proud to have trained in Centres of Excellence including the Royal London Hospital, Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand, the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham. She undertook a 4-year specialist training programme in Sport and Exercise Medicine in the West Midlands and practices across the Midlands. She completed ultrasound training and holds a postgraduate certificate in MSK ultrasound.
Dr Hyland's fervent commitment lies in conducting comprehensive assessments that encompass the entirety of a patient's well-being, employing advanced techniques such as ultrasound and injections. By doing so, she empowers patients with a profound understanding of their conditions, providing them with the knowledge and tools to manage their health effectively. Dr Hyland's holistic approach not only guides individuals towards improved well-being but also inspires them to pursue stronger, healthier, and fitter lives, realising their aspirations and dreams.
