About me
Neil Fergie is a Consultant ENT Surgeon jointly appointed to provide ENT services at King's Mill Hospital and Queen's Medical Centre from 2005.
He graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 1991 and has undertaken ENT specialist training in Glasgow, Manchester and the East Midlands. During training he completed a MD thesis at the University of Leicester on Neuroprotection of the Cochlea and established a multidisciplinary group in biofilm research in glue ear (OME). He spent nine months on a Fellowship in ENT in Western Australia at Perth Children's Hospital and Sir Charles Gardner Hospitals which involved, in addition, delivering ENT services to remote communities in the Western Desert and Northern Western Australia (flying doctor).
Since appointment as consultant in 2005 he has held various positions within the NHS including Head of Foundation Year 1 training ( responsibility for newly qualified doctors within the trust);and clinical lead for head and neck services (ENT, ophthalmology; audiology; maxilla-facial surgery; orthodontics)
In additional to a busy clinical practice and a number of roles within the NHS, he is an examiner for ENT examinations both in Europe and in the UK (Fellowship and European board exams) and is a board member for the UK examination. He represents ENT within the surgical safety organisation CORESS and is UK delegate to UEMS (European medical specialties organisation). He has been invited as a Visiting Professor to the University of Namibia Medical School.
