About me

I am a highly qualified and experienced Chartered Clinical Psychologist working in Petersfield and Southsea, Hampshire. I also offer online therapy.

My extensive training enables me to understand the layers of complexity that underpin psychological and mental health difficulties across the life span. I now specialise in working with adults (18+ years old). I do not pathologise the individual but explore all the factors involved in how, when and why problems have emerged.

I have over 20 years of experience working in the NHS and private sector using evidence-based psychological interventions to help people overcome a wide range of difficulties such as: fears, anxiety and stress, low mood and depression, emotional dysregulation, low self-esteem, high self-criticism and shame, burnout, relationship difficulties, self-defeating patterns and childhood trauma.

My aim is to tailor psychological work to an individual's needs and goals. By working collaboratively, I look to support each individual understand how societal pressures and social circumstances interact with their own biology, personality, and history to contribute to the version of themselves they have become, and the issues they experience.

By creating a clear plan, I support clients to transform distress and confusion into increased stability, confidence and purpose to face and overcome challenges from the past, present or future.

Areas of interest

I work with adults aged 18 years and older. My areas of interest are: anxiety, panic, health anxiety, stress and burnout; low mood and depression; sleep problems and insomnia; emotional dysregulation; detachment/dissociation; low self-esteem/self-worth; high self-criticism and shame; relationship difficulties; adverse childhood experiences and complex trauma; self-defeating patterns (e.g. people pleasing; perfectionism, disordered eating, self-harm, anger issues, control issues etc); loss, bereavement and grief;

I have training in a variety of models and therapies including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT); Schema Therapy (using chair work, imagery rescripting & limited reparenting etc); I am also trained in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) so can integrate these skills if indicated (I am not able to offer a full DBT treatment in private practice); I also draw on Poly-Vagal Theory-informed approaches.
