About me
Mr Sri Ganeshamurthy Thrumurthy is a Consultant Surgeon and Interventional Endoscopist at King's College Hospital London, as well as King Edward VII's Hospital in London. Mr Thrumurthy specialises in bariatric endoscopy, per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM, G-POEM), complex endoscopic mucosal resection and advanced luminal diagnostic modalities.
He graduated with Honours from the University of Manchester, obtained Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in his first year as a doctor, and subsequently Membership of the Royal of Physicians (MRCP). He subsequently completed his higher surgical training across South London, and was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in England.
Mr Thrumurthy successfully completed an Advanced Endosurgery Fellowship under Mr Amyn Haji and Professor Bu Hayee at the world-renowned King's Institute of Therapeutic Endoscopy (King's College Hospital, London), before being appointed as Consultant Surgeon in the same department.
He has a keen interest in medical education and training, and is the editor of a number of medical and surgical textbooks, including the Oxford Handbook of Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery and the upcoming Oxford Handbook of Endoscopy. He is recognised as a Trainer by the British General Medical Council (GMC), as well as an accredited Endoscopy Trainer by the UK Joint Advisory Group on GI Endoscopy (JAG). He serves as Course Director for the Basic Surgical Skills Course at the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England). He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King's College London (KCL).
Mr Thrumurthy also maintains a keen interest in medical research, and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals such as the British Medical Journal (BMJ), British Journal of Surgery (BJS) and journals in the Nature portfolio.
He was made a Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and Fellow of the Academy of Medical Education (FAcadMEd), and was appointed a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London (FRCP) for his contributions to medical education and training. He has been awarded a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management under the NHS Leadership Academy, as well as a Master of Laws (LLM) in Medical Law and Ethics.
He is a Programme Director for King's Live, one of the world's largest annual international endoscopy symposiums.
CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGIES
Mr Thrumurthy has led the introduction of Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF) to King's College Hospital, facilitating them in being the first NHS hospital in the UK to offer the TIF procedure. He employs the Apollo Overstitch device to perform endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG), as well as advanced endoscopy techniques in performing per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM and G-POEM) for achalasia and gastroparesis.
