About me
Dr Yap qualified from University of Aberdeen and completed her postgraduate specialty training in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine in North of Scotland.
She passed the Royal College of Physicians Endocrinology& Diabetes Specialty Certificate examination in 2017, before completing her training and taking up an NHS consultant post in Aberdeen in 2020. She was elected as Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 2021. She is currently the clinical lead in general internal medicine.
Dr Yap�s scope of practice includes general diabetes, diabetes technologies, endocrine conditions and general medicine. Dr Yap has special interest in adrenal gland disorders such as adrenal insufficiency and adrenal lesions. She also offers investigation and management of various endocrine conditions including disorders of thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary and hypogonadism. Dr Yap is also an experienced General Physician who is involved in management of general medical patients and acute medical emergencies.
Dr Yap is committed to delivering pragmatic and evidence-based medicine. She has been involved in several quality improvement projects. She has worked closely with specialist endocrine nurses and other specialties in steroid education and introduction of steroid emergency card as per NHS Improvement national patient safety alert recommendation. She has also implemented local clinical guidelines for adrenal incidentaloma and management of hospital inpatients on continuous subcutaneous insulin pump.
Dr Yap has a keen interest in medical education and holds the post as Honorary Clinical Lecturer with University of Aberdeen. She is actively involved in the design and delivery of teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. She is also a Royal College of Physicians examiner for the MRCP (UK) PACES examination.
Dr Yap is committed to provide personalised, practical and patient-centered care, helping her patients to negotiate and understand their illnesses as well as formulate an individually tailored treatment to suit each patient.
