About me

I offer a collaborative and reflective relationship demonstrating consideration and sensitivity for your experiences, feelings and needs. I will help you to slow things down, understand your problems and their impact on a deeper level so we may identify what is beneath them and keeping them going, with a view to resolving them.

I am a highly experienced counsellor and psychotherapist with a specialist interest in supporting clients with Complex PTSD. Trained to masters degree level and fully trained and qualified in Eye Movement and Desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) Psychotherapy. I am DBS checked to enhanced level. My therapeutic experience is diverse. I have successfully worked with many people experiencing a range of often complex and interconnected issues, such as; childhood sexual abuse, rape, sexual assault, and domestic abuse. My specialist interest is in CPTSD.

My core counselling modality is Humanistic Gestalt combined with a trauma-informed approach. This means the process encompasses a safety, stabilisation and resourcing phase to begin with, before moving to active processing of unresolved trauma or issues.

Gestalt is an existential approach, with a focus on exploring human experience, the whole person and the here and now. As a Gestalt therapist I see my role as supporting you to develop your awareness of self, to help you build resilience, and empower you to assert your own needs and feelings. I believe in your ability to know what is best for you and to make your own choices. However, throughout our childhoods and later in life our experiences and relationships can form blocks, patterns of thinking, feeling and relating which obstruct our human potential and our ability to lead happy, peaceful and fulfilled lives.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured form of Psychotherapy. If you have experienced trauma or upsetting experiences they can become stuck in your brain unprocessed. This leads to the re-experiencing of the event in the here and now. You may suffer with PTSD or Complex PTSD, a more severe form of PTSD, resulting in anxiety, panic, low mood and depression, flashbacks, insomnia, sleep disturbances, nightmares, low self-esteem, relationships issues, feelings of shame, anger and intrusive thoughts. EMDR uses bi-lateral stimulation of the brain to reprocess the trauma, so it is no longer disturbing for you, enabling you to resolve your distress.

EMDR can be incorporated into a Gestalt talking therapies approach.
