About me

I understand how difficult it can be finding a counsellor and coming to therapy for the first time. I also believe that having the right therapist is vital to successful counselling. Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed with the challenges in our lives and need a place where we can have some space to think about ourselves without fear of being judged or criticised. I am an experienced Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist with a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling. I work integratively which means I draw on a variety of theoretical models (including Person Centred, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis) in order to meet the individual needs of each client in a unique and personal way. As a registered accredited member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) I work within their ethical framework for good practice.

I feel it is important to tailor the counselling sessions to suit the needs of the individual, working with creativity, compassion and consideration. I have my own experience of counselling and understand the courage it takes to reach out for support- so by reading this you have made the first step.

For many years I have worked in a supporting roles within the domestic violence and sexual violence sectors, specialising in working with adults and young people who are survivors of sexual abuse. My work has involved counselling, crisis work and advocacy. I have worked with Women's Aid Integrated Services (WAIS), Women's Aid and currently work as a counsellor with men and women at SV2 (formally Derbyshire Rape Crisis). I have additional training and experience in working with trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

I have undertaken specific training in womens health and issues possibly affecting women including hormonal imbalances, menopause, hyseterectomy, miscarriage and infant loss.

I have experience in working with children and young adults in both private and school settings. I have completed further training in working with Looked After Children, child development, separation, loss and attachment, managing behaviours, diversity and identity, child abuse and safer caring. I have also undergone training with The Foundation of Infant Loss to support bereaved parents.

Please get in touch for an informal, initial chat about how I may be able to support you.
