About me

Dr Burch was appointed as Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2011 and has a specialist interest in inflammatory bowel disease, abdominal pain, functional abdominal disorders, bowel cancer screening, and clinical nutrition. She always aims to take a patient centred and friendly approach to clinical assessment and diagnosis.

She completed her undergraduate training in Leicester in 2001, following which she undertook her Specialist Gastroenterology and General Medicine training in the East Midlands. During this time she developed an interest in clinical nutrition and intestinal failure. She was awarded an MSc with distinction in Clinical Nutrition from Roehampton University in 2010. Over the past 15 years she has held a number of national roles and been involved in writing local and national guidance. She has also been heavily involved in service developments leading to improved patient care.

She prides herself on clear communication and has an empathetic approach to patient assessment and management. She is an experienced endoscopist and also undertakes bowel cancer screening endoscopy as part of her routine clinical practice as well as interventional endoscopy and large polyp removal. She is the course director for an accredited colonoscopy upskilling course to help improve endoscopic skills in established practitioners.

She firmly believes in the importance of maintaining health and fitness. In her spare time she enjoys CrossFit, cycling, mud runs, and generally being active and healthy.
