About me

Hi, I am Dr Marcus Lewton, an HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist and Doctor of Psychology (PhD). I have significant experience working with children and adolescents, with a specialist interest in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anxiety-based presentations. I am the author of Intrusive Thoughts and Compulsions in Adolescent OCD: A Psychoanalytic Framework for Treatment (Routledge), and have a forthcoming book for parents, When Your Teenager's Mind Gets Loud (Routledge).

I work primarily with young people aged 13-18, though I can also work with latency age children presenting with obsessive compulsive symptoms. My approach draws on a range of psychological models, from psychodynamic to cognitive behavioural, and I tailor this to the needs of each young person and family.

I believe the therapeutic relationship is central to change, and I work to create a safe, containing space for clients to explore their difficulties. I offer thorough assessment, clear formulation, and a clear treatment plan, with no obligation to continue treatment with me beyond that point.

Areas of interest

Child and adolescent psychology; OCD; Anxiety Disorders; psychodynamic-informed interventions; low mood; self-harm; eating disorders - predominantly bulimia but will work with anorexia if an MDT team is already involved; clinical formulations for treatment planning.
