About me
Dr Giljaca is a substantive consultant gastroenterologist and advanced interventional endoscopist at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). He qualified from University of Rijeka, Croatia in 2003, completed his gastroenterology training in Croatia in 2015 and has done his PhD at Royal Free Hospital London. Since 2016, he has been a consultant at UHB.
He specialises in a wide range of gastrointestinal problems, including dyspepsia, acid reflux, ulcer disease, conditions of the liver and biliary system like biliary stones, precancerous conditions of the gastrointestinal tract, polyps and early cancers. He also has interest in pancreatic disorders, Dr Giljaca has a specialist interest in advanced and complex gastrointestinal endoscopy of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. He performs complex polypectomies (removal of polyps in the oesophagus, stomach or the bowels) and also performs endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and ERCP � advanced endoscopic procedures to evaluate and treat conditions of the liver, pancreas and the bile ducts.
Dr Giljaca has brought several new procedures to West Midlands and has championed innovative advanced endoscopic procedures in the region, like Endoscopic Submucosal Resection and Full Thickness Resection of gastrointestinal polyps and early cancers in the gastrointestinal tract. He has published several scientific papers in various medical journals.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, member of British Society of Gastroenterology, member of European Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and has served on the Quality Improvement Committee of the ESGE. He is involved in advanced training for registrars and fellows in gastroenterology and has been lecturing on the topic of gastroenterology for medical students in Birmingham.
