About me
am a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where I have been providing specialist care since 2013. My surgical career began in Glasgow in 2001, followed by higher specialist training in vascular and endovascular surgery at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary from 2008.
I specialise in the management of complex aortic disease, with particular expertise in thoracic and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, including both open and advanced endovascular (minimally invasive) repair techniques. I am also highly experienced in the treatment of venous disease, offering modern, minimally invasive therapies for varicose veins such as radiofrequency ablation, medical adhesive (glue) closure, and foam sclerotherapy, tailored to achieve optimal clinical and cosmetic outcomes.
As Lead Clinician of the Scottish National Service for Aortic Arch, Thoracoabdominal and Suprarenal Aortic Aneurysms, I oversee a national referral service managing some of the most complex aortic conditions in the UK. This role involves multidisciplinary collaboration and delivering highly specialised care using the latest surgical and endovascular technologies.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and ongoing research in aortic disease and vascular surgery. I am also actively involved in surgical assessment and training as an MRCS Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, an Intercollegiate Specialty Board Examiner in Vascular Surgery (FRCS), and an Examiner for the European Board of Vascular Surgery (FEBVS).
My professional qualifications include:
MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery primary medical degree),
JBVS (Jordanian Board of Vascular Surgery specialist certification in vascular surgery),
MRCS(Ed) (Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh core surgical qualification),
FRCS(Ed) (Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh consultant-level surgical qualification),
FACS (Fellow of the American College of Surgeons international recognition of surgical excellence), and
MFSTEd (Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers, Edinburgh recognition of expertise in surgical training and education).
I am an active member of key professional organisations, including the British Medical Association, the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland, the British Society of Endovascular Therapy, and the Association of Surgeons in Training. I am also regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences and am the Founder and Chair of the Edinburgh Aortic Summit, an international meeting focused on advancing multidisciplinary care in complex aortic disease.
My practice is centred on delivering safe, evidence-based, and patient-focused care. I believe in clear communication, shared decision-making, and tailoring treatment plans to each individual patient's needs to achieve the best possible outcomes.
