About me
Mr Jamie Vatish is a Midlands based Consultant Oncoplastic and Reconstructive Breast Surgeon specialising in all aspects of breast disease. He has a focus on the surgical management of breast cancer and breast implant issues. He is the Lead for Breast Surgery at University Hospital's Birmingham, one of the largest breast units in the UK.
He provides a comprehensive service for patients with breast cancer, benign breast conditions, cosmetic breast surgery or those who simply require reassurance. Jamie has advanced training in Oncoplastic surgery, which combines breast cancer surgery with techniques to preserve the overall aesthetic of the breast. He is one of the few surgeons in the West Midlands who performs Chest Wall Perforator Flaps in Breast Conserving Surgery, avoiding the need for a mastectomy.
Jamie obtained his medical degree at Guys, Kings and St Thomas's Medical School in London, gaining an additional degree in Psychology during this period. He completed higher surgical training in the Midlands before being selected for a National Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, offered only to a handful of breast or plastic surgeons per year. He undertook this period of training at the renowned Leeds Breast Unit, where he developed a special interest in the management of Breast-Implant Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare type of immune cancer associated with Breast Implants.
Outside of his clinical practice, Jamie has an extensive role in training the next generation of doctors and surgeons. He holds a degree in medical education, is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham and is the lead trainer for trainee breast surgeons in the West Midlands. He is regularly invited to teach on courses at the Royal College of Surgeons, London and is an examiner for the National Oncoplastic Masters course. He is widely published in all aspects of surgery and breast disease with publications in the Lancet, the British Journal of Surgery and the British Medical Journal.
