About me
I am a qualified child/adolescent psychotherapist and an adult counsellor. I work both in person at York and online. I began my career as a special needs teacher and I have taught and managed in different schools and units with young people who have both physical and emotional special educational needs. My passion of working with these young people led me to train as a therapist. I realised that many of the young people I worked with were not having their emotional needs addressed and not feeling emotionally safe. They struggled to access school, the curriculum and forge/maintain their significant relationships. In short, they were not enjoying their life as much as they wanted and were not realising their potential.
Key to the work is the relationship between myself and the client. I work flexibly according to the developmental age of the client (from aged four onwards) and their preferences. So, with some clients, the focus will be predominantly talking and, with others, there will be a more creative approach with play and using the arts. I work with a variety of presentations, including anxiety, self-esteem, addiction, sexuality, and gender. I have experience both in education and as a therapist in working with neurodiversity.
