About me

I am a Consultant General and Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, I have been working as a Consultant in NHS Borders since August 2015 and have been the Clinical Lead of the Breast Department since 2020. My day-to-day work involves breast diseases, oncoplastic procedures and general surgeries.

I completed the Higher Specialty Surgical Training in Iraq and qualified as a General Surgeon and Fellow of the Iraqi Commission of Surgeons (FICS) in Mosul in December 1998. After completing the Arabic Board exam as Top Graduate, I was chosen by the Authorities of a prestigious University of Belgium to continue higher surgical training in Belgium. In Brussels and Gent (Belgium), I trained and then worked in the most world-renowned center for Plastic and Breast surgery with Professors Hamdi and Blondeel, world�s leading breast/plastic surgeons. I gained a second qualification in surgery (Belgian Board of Surgery) and a diploma in microsurgery.

I then moved to Scotland and after completing a Postgraduate Fellowship in Oncoplastic Breast surgery in Glasgow, I started my consultant career as a Consultant Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon.

Thanks to my practice in Plastic Surgery and extensive experience in Breast surgery and oncoplastic procedures, I gained a unique position to deal with any type of Breast Diseases, particularly managing complex cancer surgery while achieving excellent reconstruction (implant, therapeutic mammaplasty, lipomodelling (fat transfer) �). I also deal with prophylactic risk-reducing surgery in patient with genetic mutation and manage breast pain, benign lump and nipple problems. I am happy to see patients who seeks second opinion.

Being trained in general surgery and working in NHS Borders, my practice also involves general surgical procedures including open hernia repairs and management of lumps and bumps amongst other procedures, which I perform regularly.

Areas of interest

My practice encompasses all areas of General Surgery. In my private practice, I will focus on open hernia repairs; including inguinal, femoral, umbilical/para-umbilical hernias and minor skin lumps.

My practice as a Breast Oncoplastic surgeon includes: Wide local excision, axillary clearance/sentinel lymph node biopsy/ target axillary dissection. Therapeutic mammoplasty, reduction / augmentation / mastopexy for symmetrisation. Removal / exchange of implants / reconstruction with implants +/- Acellular dermal matrix (more details can be found on my application form)
