About me

Dr Khaleq graduated from Egypt in 2011. After completion of his foundation and early stages of training in Jordan he moved to the UK where he started his training in medicine. He worked across different hospitals in England and Wales where he gained his MRCP in 2017.
He worked in Frimley Park Hospital as Education and Leadership fellow where he worked with the educational team in the hospital and across Surrey training body to improve medical training for doctors in post-graduate training.
He started his higher specialty training in Wessex Deanery across Hampshire and Dorset in 2018. He worked in different hospitals including Poole General Hospital, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and Queen Alexandra Hospital. During his training he was awarded the Raising Star award and the Junior Mentor award in Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust. This is after his work in leading the response of the trust to the COVID pandemic. He played a vital role in writing the guidelines for COVID treatment and managing the patients in the early days of the pandemic.

During his training years he developed knowledge and skills in managing wide range of respiratory diseases and conditions. This includes asthma, COPD, Bronchiectasis, cough, lung cancer, interstitial lung disease, pleural diseases, and sleep medicine. He Is also trained in performing wide range of respiratory procedures such as pleural procedures; chest drains, thoracic ultrasound and thoracoscopy. His special interest in bronchoscopy and endo-bronchial ultrasound helped him to able to perform complex procedures in this field.

Since his appointment as a consultant in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, he has been the lead for interstitial lung disease. He also participates in the regional meeting with the Queen Alexandra team to discuss the complex cases of interstitial lung disease.

Alongside his respiratory medicine specialty, Dr Khaleq holds a certificate in general internal medicine and is recognised consultant in General Medicine. This helps t manage wide range of other conditions and helps him to provide a holistic approach to his patients to manage them alongside his respiratory medicine specialty.

Recently Dr Khaleq has been appointed as interim clinical director of specialty medicine in Hampshire Hospitals. This leadership role plays vital role in helping the trust management team to ensure to provide best care for patients and to improve services provided.

Dr Khaleq is a recognised trainer and supervisor by the GMC. He supervises and helps training junior doctors in early stage of training or higher specialty training who are trained to be the future respiratory consultants. He is a recognised examiner by the Royal College of Physicians for the PACES exam. This is the exam required for doctors to hold MRCP qualification. He has special interest in medical education and works with the medical education team to supervise and teach medical students in Hampshire Hospitals. Dr Khaleq delivers regular teaching sessions to medical students and doctors in training. He also participates in educational events for other healthcare professionals such as physicians� associates and nursing team.

Dr Khaleq has publications in respiratory medicine and medical management published in different journals and has presented in different conformances in respiratory medicine.

Interstitial lung disease and airway disease such as: Asthma and COPD
Rare lung diseases: lung fibrosis (scarring), sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, organising pneumonia and lung diseases related to connective tissue diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus and other inflammatory lung diseases
Managing patients with present breathlessness with no clear cause
Diagnostic respiratory investigations such as bronchoscopy and endo-bronchial ultrasound
