About me

Dr Ben Warner has practiced as a Consultant Gastroenterologist since 2018. He works at Darent Valley Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The broad nature of his NHS work and his research experience into Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Hepatobiliary Medicine, has made him an accomplished all rounded Gastroenterologist and Endoscopist.

Ben was awarded Consultant of the Year Award in 2023 at Darent Valley Hospital for his work as the Upper Gastrointestinal Cancer Lead for the Trust.

Patients who see him should expect a high standard of commitment to their care, good communication and bespoke treatment plans.

Ben will see patients with the following symptoms:
� Abnormal liver function tests
� Altered bowel habit and rectal bleeding
� Constipation and diarrhoea
� Abdominal pain
� Heart burn
� Irritable bowel syndrome

Training:
Ben qualified from The Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2006. He did most of his medical training in the South-East of England before completing a research fellowship at Guy's and St Thomas' in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He was awarded a research doctorate (MD) from King's College London. He then finished his training with a 1 year fellowship learning Endoscopic retrograde Cholangio Pancreatography (ERCP) and Endoscopic Ultrasound at King's College Hospital making him an advanced endoscopist.

Teaching:
Ben is also dedicated to the teaching of junior doctors and medical students. He is a Senior Lecturer at Kent and Medway Medical School and won �Best 1st Year Lecture� award in 2022. For his role as a mentor for junior doctors he received �Most Supportive Consultant� award in 2019.



Research:
Having received a research doctorate (MD) in 2020 from King's College London for his work on thiopurines and their toxicity to the liver, he has continued to recruit to clinical trials such as the IBD Bioresource Study. He has published over 80 papers and abstracts with over 700 citations of his work by other authors.
