About me
Dr Philip Hendy is a luminal gastroenterologist with specialist interests in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), endoscopy, nutrition and gut health, and video capsule endoscopy including colon capsule endoscopy (CCE). He qualified from Imperial College London in 2006, with an MBBS and a BSc in Human Physiology. He completed specialist training in gastroenterology in the Northwest Thames Deanery, London. During his training, Dr Hendy undertook three years of higher research at St Mark's Hospital under the world-renowned mentorship of Professor Ailsa Hart and Professor Stella Knight. For his research into immune dysfunction in IBD and the gut microbiome he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London, and received the London Northwest Hospitals Trust Prize for Research.
Dr Hendy has maintained a strong interest in digestive health and IBD research and continues to lead and recruit to clinical trials. He has presented his work at international conferences, published peer reviewed papers and book chapters, and sat on national guideline committees and national society committees. He has been co-lead for Gastroenterology Research in Northwest Thames at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and was until recently Chair of the Adolescent and Young Person Committee at the British Society of Gastroenterology.
Dr Hendy sees adults, and adolescents aged 16-18, with all aspects of luminal gastrointestinal disease in his clinics and also has specialist clinics. He has introduced a colon capsule service to Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
