About me

With over 20 years of experience spanning Italy, the United Kingdom, and Lower-Middle Income Countries, I am a passionate clinician driven by a desire to prevent, diagnose early, and expertly manage cardiovascular disease. I believe in balancing clinical excellence with academic and managerial duties, focusing on cardiomyopathy, heart failure (HF), and advanced cardiac imaging, particularly cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
I took my degree in Medicine and Surgery and my MD with honours from La Sapienza University of Rome in 2001, followed by a broad general medicine experience and a research role at the Superior Italian Health Institute.
I gained the specialisation in Cardiology at University Campus Bio-Medico (2009). After 3 humanitarian missions in Sudan, Kenya and the Middle East, I honed my skills as a consultant in HF and Cardiac Rehabilitation at San Raffaele, in Rome, before moving to London where I completed fellowships in HF (Clinic and Research), advanced imaging (cardiac MRI) and Cardiomyopathy.
My management and leadership experiences have been essential in completing my training: the HFMA Academy financial course gave me a good insight into the complex NHS structure and financial needs.
Today, I am a Senior NHS Consultant Cardiologist and I lead the HF and cardiomyopathy services- which I both set up- at Croydon Health Service until September 2024.
My expertise extends to Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR), where I hold both the EACVI Level 3 accreditation (since 2017) and the SCMR Level 3 accreditation (since 2013). I have performed over 5,000 CMR studies, averaging approximately 500 per year between 2019 and 2024 at King's College London.
Beyond clinical duties, I actively contribute to national and international societies and board committees, including the European Society of Cardiology (ESC, Current Nucleus Member of Cardiomyopathy Working Group and Inflammatory Cardiomyopathy Committee), the Royal Society of Medicine (current President of Cardiology section), and the Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) (listed below). I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Heart Failure Association.
My entrepreneurial spirit led me to found MIAL Healthcare (Medici Italiani A Londra), a hospital-based service offering multidisciplinary care with a personalised and holistic approach. MIAL leverages digital health innovations to optimise care pathways, enhance patient care, and improve physician workflow.
