About me

Dr Elizabeth Caruana Galizia is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist interest in Epilepsy and Auto-Immune Encephalitis.

Dr Caruana Galizia studied medicine at the University of Malta, where she continued her early medical training before pursuing formal training in Neurology in the UK.

She undertook research at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and was awarded a PhD in 2017 for her thesis on pharmacogenetics in epilepsy.

She joined the Neurology Department at St George's Hospital in 2017 as a Consultant Neurologist and research lead for the Epilepsy Group. She is regularly involved in recruiting patients to clinical trials in Epilepsy.

Apart from her experience in Epilepsy and auto-immune encephalitis, Dr Caruana Galizia has a broad range of experience in general neurology; she is a member of the Neuro-Oncology MDT at St George's hospital.

Dr Caruana Galizia is regularly involved in teaching and has taken over the running of the Epilepsy co-morbidities course at St. George's University and contributes to the undergraduate student teaching.

She is a regular invited speaker for external courses on the subject of Epilepsy.
