About me

I have been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist in West Hertfordshire since 2002.

My practice covers all aspects of benign gynaecology and I have a special interest in Urogynaecology, Period Problems and Pelvic pain including the treatment of endometriosis. I am also happy to see patients with Vulval / Vaginal skin problems and Menopausal symptoms (I am an accredited specialist with the British Menopause Society).

I have been happily married since 1992 and have 3 children. My wife works as a nurse specialist, my eldest son is a junior doctor (who is training to be a surgeon) and my daughter is a physiotherapist. We are a medical family - apart from my second son who has chosen to do something else!

Clinical lead for Urogynaecology

Research interests

I have a particular research interest in the menopause and female bladder problems.

I was awarded an MD for work on "The effect of oestrogen and the menopause on the female lower urinary tract" (University of London 2000). My educational supervisor and mentor was Professor Linda Cardozo from King's College Hospital.

I am now an accredited Menopause Specialist with the British Menopause Society.

I was previously Chairman of the Audit and Database Committee of the British Society of Urogynaecology (BSUG).

Personal interests

In addition to family activities when the opportunity arises I like to go running, cycle and play golf.

Awards received

I was grateful to receive the award of "Employee of the month" from West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust.

I have also received many Clinical Excellence Awards (Level 8) from my Trust - in recognition for the high standard of patient care delivered and developments introduced.

Publications

I have written a large number of articles and book chapters as well as completing a systematic review for the Cochrane Collaboration on "Oestrogen for incontinence." I have also given many lectures both in the UK and abroad.

I am on the Editorial Board of the medical journal Maturitas which predominately publishes research on the effects of ageing and the menopause. My role includes reviewing scientific papers.

Courses offered to GPs

I have organised more than 50 GP Educational Evenings on behalf of the West Herts and Watford Medical Society. I also speak at large number of meetings each year predominantly on my main special interests of Urogynaecology, menstrual disorders and pelvic pain.
