About me
Raf Niziol is a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon at Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK's highest-volume head and neck units. He sees patients with the full range of conditions affecting the mouth, jaws, face and neck, and he subspecialises in complex head and neck surgery.
Raf qualified in medicine from St George's, University of London, in 2010 and completed his specialty training in London. Before taking up his consultant post, he completed the Advanced Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship at Guy's Hospital.
Raf's practice at Guy's is known for highly complex cancer surgery and reconstruction, including more than 100 microsurgical free flap reconstructions each year. As a maxillofacial surgeon he also treats everyday conditions of the face, jaw, mouth and teeth. Patients can book with him for any oral and maxillofacial problem, from wisdom teeth and mouth lumps to salivary gland and jaw conditions.
Raf also uses his microsurgical expertise to repair the lingual and inferior alveolar nerves. These nerves can be damaged during wisdom tooth removal, dental implant placement or root canal treatment, which can leave lasting numbness, altered taste or pain in the tongue, lip or chin. Early assessment gives the best chance of recovery.
In private practice, Raf operates at the Cromwell Hospital in Kensington and its affiliated clinics, a setting experienced in caring for complex head and neck patients. He also holds clinics at King Edward VII's Hospital, just off Harley Street. His treatment plans put the patient first and aim to restore both function and appearance. He works closely with multidisciplinary colleagues so that each patient's wellbeing and quality of life stay at the centre of their care.
Raf has published widely, including research papers and book chapters on head and neck cancer, and has presented his work at national and international meetings.
