About me

Dr Omer Ahmad is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Interventional Endoscopist at University College London Hospital. He has a specialist interest in the early detection and treatment of pre-cancerous conditions in the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract. He has been awarded multiple prestigious awards for his innovative clinical research in the field. He is the clinical co-lead for the North Central London Endoscopy Network.

Dr Ahmad is a luminal gastroenterologist, in addition to advanced endoscopy, his specialist clinical practice includes the diagnosis and management of a wide range of gut disorders such as gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn) and irritable bowel syndrome.

He was previously awarded the young clinical and translational scientist of the year by the British Society of Gastroenterology. He since received the National Endoscopy Rising Star Award. He studied medicine at University College London graduating with a distinction in both clinical sciences and practice alongside a 1st Class Honours intercalated degree in Pharmacology. He was awarded the A.J. Clark Prize for the best overall performance and placed on the prestigious Dean's List for outstanding academic achievement. He subsequently gained a specialist gastroenterology training post in London after ranking 1st nationally as part of a competitive process.

His completed an academic endoscopy fellowship and PhD at UCL leading to the development of artificial intelligence software that is being used in clinical practice during endoscopy to assist with earlier detection of gastrointestinal cancers. He continues to undertake clinical research at the Wellcome/EPSRC Centre for Interventional and Surgical Sciences (WEISS) and Surgical Robot Vision Research Group at University College London. He serves as an expert working member on multiple scientific committees and is frequently invited internationally to lecture (British Society of Gastroenterology, American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Japanese GI Endoscopy Society).
