About me

Mr Saheel Mukhtar is a highly skilled Consultant Urological Surgeon, working at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals. He specialises in the diagnosis and management of general urological conditions, with a particular focus on urinary infections, prostate cancer and urinary tract stones. He trained at the University of Southampton where he received both his medical and (1:1) biomedical sciences degree. As a medical student, he was awarded a number of highly prestigious prizes, reflecting his dedication to his studies. He completed his surgical rotation and urology rotations in London, taking in valuable expertise from his time at the Royal Marsden.

As a marker of his commitment to his craft, he completed a fellowship in urology in Perth, Western Australia - an area noted for high stone burden. He also completed postgraduate research into evaluating patient reported outcomes following bladder surgery at University College London. Mr Mukhtar is also a graduate of the National Medical Director's Clinical Fellow Scheme, a prestigious programme for doctors in the NHS.

Mr Mukhtar has a strong focus upon delivering excellent patient focussed care. He is passionate about managing patients' urinary symptoms (male and female), blood in the urine, urine infections, benign prostate enlargement, incontinence, and conditions affecting the bladder, testicles, and penis. He has a holistic patient-centred approach, concentrating on delivering the right management plan for each individual - whether that be through simple advice or the prescription of treatments. Where necessary, he performs a range of surgical procedures, and is one of the few urologists to perform laser treatments (HoLEP and greenlight laser) for prostate problems, Rezum, Urolift, as well as more traditional procedures such as TURP.

Mr Mukhtar is well-versed in the management of urological cancers and currently serves as a Cancer Lead and MDT Chair. He has also previously served in the same role at south Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust as well as the regional role of West Midlands Cancer Alliance Faster Diagnosis Lead. He is also passionate about educating junior doctors and is the Lead for the Basic Surgical Skills Courses at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his young family as well as running, tennis, and reading. He particularly enjoys travelling to different parts of the world, savouring different cultures.

Areas of interest

Mr Mukhtar has a subspecialist interest in the management of prostate, bladder cancer, and kidney cancer. He regularly performs minimally invasive surgery and offers comprehensive treatments for kidney stones including telescopic laser surgery, laser lithotripsy (PCNL and Ureteroscopy).

He delivers the same meticulous approach to the management of common urological conditions - including circumcision, hydrocele repair, epididymal cyst excision treatment, vasectomy and vasectomy reversal and varicoceles.

He is passionate about managing patients' urinary symptoms (male and female), blood in the urine, urine infections, benign prostate enlargement, incontinence, and conditions affecting the bladder, testicles or penis.
