About me
I am a Consultant Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. I see patients with common heart symptoms including palpitations, breathlessness and chest pain, including atypical chest pain. I also advise on cholesterol and reducing the risk of future heart problems. My specialist expertise is in complex coronary artery treatment and TAVI, a keyhole procedure used to treat narrowing of the aortic valve.
I have over 20 years of clinical cardiology experience and have held consultant posts in London and Newcastle before being appointed in Cardiff over seven years ago.
As a general cardiologist, I manage patients with coronary and valvular heart disease, heart rhythm problems and heart failure. As an interventional cardiologist, I specialise in the minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
My main areas of expertise are angina, coronary angiography, complex coronary angioplasty and angina with non-obstructive coronary arteries, known as ANOCA. I also diagnose and manage vasospastic angina, microvascular angina, acute coronary syndromes and cholesterol/risk-factor control in patients with coronary artery disease.
To date, I have performed over 3,500 coronary angioplasty procedures, most through the wrist. I use advanced imaging inside the heart arteries, including IVUS and OCT, to optimise stent treatment.
In my NHS practice, I undertake TAVI for aortic stenosis and lead the PFO closure service at the University Hospital of Wales for patients with cryptogenic stroke.
