About me
I am an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising exclusively in all aspects of knee surgery. My NHS appointment is at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals which is a large regional Orthopaedic and Major Trauma centre. I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in knee in 2001 having graduated from Sheffield Medical School in 1990 and undertaken most of my surgical training in Leeds and the Yorkshire Region. Before taking my post as a Consultant I spent 12 months in Auckland NZ working with a group of internationally renowned knee and sports trauma surgeons at the Adidas sports Medicine centre.
In both my NHS and private practice I treat all conditions, diseases or injuries of the knee. I receive specialist referrals for 'second' opinions from a large geographical area within Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Humberside. Sheffield is one of the UK centres with a HTA licence for Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation surgery and I am the lead for this service.
I am a surgical trainer and regularly teach assessment of knee conditions and surgical techniques to other surgeons and doctors. I have published over 25 scientific papers and 5 book chapters related to orthopaedic surgery and conditions of the knee.
I routinely perform the following procedures:
Total Knee replacement Surgery
Uni-compartmental (partial) Knee Replacements
Patello-femoral joint replacement Surgery
Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructions
Tibial Osteotomy
Surgery for knee arthritic conditions.
Knee Arthroscopy
Meniscal repair
Surgery for patella dislocation including Trochleoplasty.
Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation Surgery (MACI/ACI)
Outside of work I am a keen sportsman and enjoy running, cycling and triathlon, including ironman with a respectable 11.46 PB!
