About me

Dr Ibrahim Al Bakir is a Consultant Luminal Gastroenterologist at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and The Lister Hospital. He has specialist expertise in inflammatory bowel disease, gastro-oesophageal reflux, oesophageal motility disorders, IBS and advanced endoscopy.

As a national endoscopy trainer and the secretary-elect of the colorectal section of the British Society of Gastroenterology, he plays a key role in advancing gastroenterological care and education. Dr Al Bakir's research interests centre around bowel cancer surveillance in inflammatory bowel disease, reflecting his commitment to improving patient outcomes.

Dr Al Bakir's academic journey includes a medical degree from Oxford University in 2008, preceded by a Bachelor's degree (BA) in Physiological Sciences from the same institution in 2005 and a MA in Physiological Sciences in 2006.. In 2021, he successfully completed his PhD at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry.
