About me

I specialise in working with adults and my approach is multi-model, flexible and person led. This means that we will initially work to develop an understanding of what has brought you to therapy, consider the goals you want to work towards, and collaboratively develop a plan for therapy based on these. This means that the work can be short-term or longer-term, and that we will build in regular reviews to check in and make sure we are on track to where we want to head towards. Weekly sessions tend to work best to maintain momentum, but some people prefer fortnightly. Endings of therapy will be planned together.

The models of therapy that can be offered are Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Mindfulness, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Trauma informed approaches. Often these are combined into an integrative approach that is individualised to the difficulties and challenges you want to work on.

I can offer face to face sessions in my base in Seaton Delaval, online sessions via MS Teams and also Walk and Talk sessions which is therapy on the move. Many people like this approach as the bipedal movement of walking can help with processing difficulties and also gives the opportunity to practise skill based learning in vivo (e.g. mindfulness, anxiety management skills).

I am a clinical psychologist who has over ten years experience working in the NHS within a secondary care mental health team, involving work with a wide range of complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties. I now utilise my skills to offer therapy privately and have particular interests in trauma work, dissociative difficulties and working to improve our relationship with ourselves to reduce suffering. I have personally found benefit in many of the techniques and theories shares in therapy, particularly imagery, breathing techniques and being in nature.
