About me

Dr Lisha Shiel is a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist with 10 years experience of working as a clinician in the NHS. She obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College London. Dr Shiel has worked with adults and older adults living with a wide range of psychological difficulties, including with those living with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. She has also worked with people who have physical health conditions such as rare metabolic disorders, as well as acquired and traumatic brain injury.

Dr Shiel offers individual therapy for adults and older adults in person or online. She uses a respectful, compassionate and strengths based approach to support people. Dr Shiel believes that there is no one model that fits every person and favours an integrative approach to assessment, formulation and treatment. Therefore, she incorporates elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy in her practice to deliver a package that is tailored to the person's needs. Dr Shiel is also trained in using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in therapeutic work. She is passionate about offering inclusive psychological therapies and will make space to think about the different identities a person holds, e.g. gender, race, class, religion, sexuality, and age, and how these identities intersect in the current social and political context.

If you are experiencing low mood, anxiety, shame, low self esteem, trauma and its psychological aftermath, or going through life transitions then Dr Shiel can help you to make sense of these difficulties and find new coping strategies to improve your quality of life. Following an initial assessment, Dr Shiel will create a customised treatment plan based on your individual and cultural needs.

Dr Shiel understands that entering therapy can be a daunting process and not knowing what to expect in sessions can make it more so. To minimise barriers to accessing psychology, Dr Shiel offers a free initial consultation where you can discuss your needs, get a sense of her approach and take the first steps towards living your preferred life.
