About me

Sarah McLaren
C.Psychol, D Clin Psychol, MA (Hons)
Sarah qualified in 2012 and is a Senior Chartered Clinical Psychologist with over ten years of experience working in adult mental health settings within the NHS and over twenty years working in psychology and mental well-being. Skilled in therapy and counselling, she is HCPC registered and has worked in helping and caring professions for all of her adult life. She still finds it a privilege to work alongside people to help them grow and develop.

She is warm, compassionate and open, and places a lot of importance on the therapeutic relationship and works hard to build and maintain this.

She works with most types of psychological problems (including anxiety and anxiety disorders, low mood, low self-esteem, low confidence, and people living with the effects of traumatic experiences) and greatly enjoys the diversity of her work.

Sarah is passionate about giving people a safe space where they feel heard, valued and understood. She is experienced in tailoring therapy to her client's individual needs, goals and values, drawing upon a number of evidenced based approaches (including CBT, IPT and Schema Therapy.) She works with clients to help them to identify what the issues are for them, understand where these issues have come from, and how to make changes which will improve how they feel about their lives. She believes it is important to identify and understand the core problems rather than purely trying to fix the obvious symptoms.
