About me

Hi! Im Laura and I'm a Clinical Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about your background?

I grew up in Lebanon and was immersed in psychology from a very young age. I studied psychology in Montreal, Canada prior to moving to the UK to pursue a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IOPPN) at Kings College London (KCL).

Throughout my doctorate, I had the opportunity to work within different placements including working with university students, adolescents within a forensic service, individuals with learning disabilities and neurodiversity, older adults, couples and individuals with anxiety disorders, depression and trauma.

What will it be like when I meet you?

The first session will focus on getting to know you and answering any questions you may have about the process. I aim to create a warm, safe space where you feel comfortable sharing your difficulties. I will try to understand your goals and needs and well develop a treatment plan that is specific to you.

?What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I provide therapeutic interventions for a range of psychological difficulties, including anxiety, relationship problems, stress, depression, anger, OCD, phobias, PTSD, trauma, work difficulties, emotional crises, and bereavements. I take an integrative approach to therapy combining the most evidence-based practices from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), including compassion focused therapy (CFT), dialectical behavioural therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI) and psychodynamic and systematic approach, to deliver a intervention specific to your needs and goals.

Therapy is an active process where we will work together to address your difficulties. Some of the therapy work may include learning skills to handle difficult thoughts and feelings in a more effective matter, in order for them to have less impact on your day to day. The more you practice those skills in between the sessions, the more beneficial therapy can be. Therapy can also be a way to get a better understanding of yourself and your values. It involves taking actions, problem solving and improving your quality of life.

Being born and raised in Lebanon, a diverse, trilingual and multicultural society, I learnt the important values of tolerance, humility and cultural sensitivity and aim to integrate those values in my work.

What do you enjoy doing outside of psychology?

Aside from my work, I enjoy going on walks and hikes with my golden retriever, Benji. Throughout the lockdown, I have discovered a new passion of mine: baking! I have been spending the past few years trying out new recipes and challenging myself with my favourite desserts. I love spending time with friends and family, watching movies and traveling.
