About me
Hello, my name is Luke and I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist accredited by the BABCP. I have been working as a therapist for 10 years, initially in the NHS and now in private practice.
My work focuses on anxiety disorders, depression, relationship issues, and trauma. I am especially interested in the interactions between relationships, mental and physical health.
My primary training is in Cognitive Therapy and I have a special interest, having done substantial additional training, in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
I believe that each client is an individual with their own expertise in their lives. We work as a team to understand your difficulties and co-create a bespoke treatment plan. This means using a combination of NICE recommended evidence based models AND trauma informed individualised and relational interventions.
I work according to what the evidence base shows is the most effective treatment approach to ensure the best outcomes for you. I monitor the effectiveness of therapy throughout and adapt as necessary.
I use evidence based models where they are effective and fit your experience. I trained and practiced for 8 years within the NHS and am well versed in NICE guidelines evidence based practice using disorder specific models and protocols and routinely collecting and monitoring outcome data.
I individualise therapy to meet your unique needs therefore I integrate the models in which I am trained to provide a flexible and adaptive experience.
I am trauma informed and have extensive experience of working with trauma - both as part of my own healing journey and with many clients.
I am a strong advocate for relationships being a very important factor in the development and maintenance of mental health issues, and that building healthy relationships is vital for long term wellbeing.
I use the power of the therapeutic relationship to heal relational wounds and greatly deepen the effectiveness of therapy. I am trained in and practice Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (a relationship behavioural therapy).
I am trained in and personally practice conscious relating practices (ie Non-violent Communication, Authentic Relating) and I draw upon this in my work coaching clients to develop more effective communication skills to get what they need out of relationships.
I am passionate about my own personal development and healing journey. I believe that we all have a healing journey and mental wellbeing is a lifelong practice. Life is precious, short, and full of suffering, and the more we heal the more we will get out of life.
Everything that I offer to clients has been extensively road tested by me. I find it a virtuous cycle - the more I heal and grow myself the more I am able to help clients AND the more I help my clients the more I grow.
