About me
Dr. Ernie Wong is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with a sub-specialty interest in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He practises at St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr. Wong is also an Honorary Clinical Senior at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Dr. Wong completed a PhD in which he investigated the role of the airway microbiome in asthma exacerbation. He is actively involved in various research collaborations, such as exploring the use of an AI chatbot to optimise asthma control, studying the impact of air pollution on asthma, and researching the role of hormones in asthma.
In addition to his research work, Dr. Wong leads the asthma service at St Mary's Hospital and is the clinical lead for asthma. He also runs general respiratory clinics and participates in acute medical on-call duties, where he evaluates and treats a wide range of respiratory and medical conditions, including COVID and post-COVID cases.
Dr Wong completed his medical degree in 2006 at Imperial College London. He then underwent extensive training in respiratory and general medicine at prestigious medical centres in London, including the Royal Brompton Hospital, King's College Hospital, and St George's Hospital. He became a consultant at St Mary's Hospital in 2017.
He is a member of several esteemed medical organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians, the British Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, and the General Medical Council. Dr. Wong's commitment to respiratory medicine and his research contributions make him a respected figure in the field, and he has also made appearances in national television documentaries like the BBC's "Your Body Uncovered."
