About me

Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi is an experienced Consultant Rheumatologist with over 22 years of medical experience and more than 13 years as an NHS Consultant. She was appointed as a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2014.

She specialises in the diagnosis and management of a broad range of rheumatological conditions, including inflammatory arthritis (such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis), crystal arthritis (gout and pseudogout), connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, inflammatory muscle diseases and osteoporosis. She also has extensive experience in joint and soft tissue injections, having led the rheumatology injection clinic at Kingston Hospital for several years.

Dr Al-Shakarchi graduated in Medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004, having previously obtained a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from University College London. She completed her Master's degree in Rheumatology at King's College London in 2010, graduating with distinction and receiving the award for best research project. Her specialist rheumatology training included several of London's leading teaching hospitals, including King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas' and St George's Hospital. She was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2018.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Al-Shakarchi has held senior roles in medical education and remains actively involved in teaching and training doctors.

Dr Al-Shakarchi takes a thorough and thoughtful approach to each consultation, taking time to listen carefully, understand her patients' concerns and consider their symptoms in the context of their wider health. She believes in clear communication and shared decision-making, ensuring patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options and feel involved in decisions about their care.
