About me

Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi is a highly experienced Consultant Rheumatologist with over ten years of consultant-level expertise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of rheumatological conditions. She is known for her patient-focused approach, clear communication, and commitment to delivering personalised, evidence-based care.

Her clinical expertise includes the management of inflammatory arthritis, crystal arthritis (such as gout or pseudogout), connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, inflammatory muscle diseases, osteoporosis, and soft tissue conditions. She also has specialist experience in joint and soft tissue injections and led the rheumatology injection clinic at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for several years.

Dr Al-Shakarchi graduated in Medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004 and holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from University College London. She completed a Master's degree in Rheumatology with distinction from King's College London in 2010, receiving the award for best research project. She has presented at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed medical journals.

Her specialist training took place at several of London's leading teaching hospitals, including King's College Hospital, Guy's and St Thomas', and St George's. She was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant Rheumatologist at Kingston Hospital in 2014. In parallel with her clinical practice, she has held several senior roles in medical education and was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2018.

Dr Al-Shakarchi works in close partnership with her patients, taking time to understand their concerns and ensuring they feel supported and fully informed. She consistently receives excellent patient feedback for her compassionate, thorough, and collaborative approach to care.
