About me

John is a consultant gastroenterologist and endoscopist with a wealth of experience in all aspects of gastroenterology. As well as diagnosing and treating digestive disease, he firmly believes in compassionate patient-centred care and promoting digestive health. He empowers patients to understand their symptoms and conditions, and supports them in making the best decisions for their own health.

John has been a consultant at St George's Hospital since 2017. His specialist training was mainly undertaken in London, and included posts at St Mark's Hospital and the intestinal transplant unit in Cambridge. He qualified from Oxford and Edinburgh universities, and has a PhD from Queen Mary University of London.

John is a proficient endoscopist and is an accredited National Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopist. He is currently clinical director for bowel cancer screening for South West London.
John is actively involved in clinical research, and has published in areas including the role of nutrition on intestinal function and inflammation, novel methods for protecting the oesophagus in cardiac procedures, and the impact of the COVID pandemic on patients on home parenteral nutrition.

In addition to his clinical and research interests, John holds regional leadership roles in bowel cancer screening and intestinal rehabilitation, and is heavily involved in training the next generation of leading endoscopists at the St George's National Endoscopy Training Centre.
