About me

I am a qualified counsellor/psychotherapist, with an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and 13 years of practice experience. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have been an Accredited Member since 2012.

I have worked as a therapist within the NHS and in wellbeing services in the higher education sector; I also managed a university counselling service for a number of years and have provided supervision and support to hospice and primary care staff in the NHS.

Before retraining as a therapist, I worked in a variety of roles in the private and public sectors, in large and often complex organisations, helping me to understand the challenges and pressures which can come with these environments. I also volunteered with Age UK and Alzheimer's Society.

About my practice
I am trained and experienced in providing both long and short-term therapy to adults of all ages. I also offer reflective supervision to qualified counsellors and non-counselling professionals.

I currently offer sessions in person in Leeds and by phone/video.

I qualified in Integrative Psychotherapy which means that I draw upon ideas and techniques from different therapeutic modalities, primarily, humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural therapies.

In practice, this could mean helping you to spot unhelpful repeated patterns or behaviours (often linked to past experiences) and exploring options or strategies for change. It might also be about helping you to understand your inner conflicts and helping you to find a way to live with losses or changes which cannot be resolved.

I often work with people who, to the outside world, may appear to be functioning well in spite of the problems they are facing. Underneath, they may be really struggling.

Whatever brings you to therapy, my aim is to help relieve your distress by getting to the root cause of your difficulties.

Areas of interest

An experienced BACP-accredited therapist, I work with adults of all ages and with issues including: depression; anxiety; bereavement and loss; relationship and identity problems; also life changes and transitions.

I have a particular interest and training in the following areas:

Working with all kinds of loss and change. This includes supporting people bereaved by traumatic and sudden death; those navigating life changes such as menopause, redundancy and divorce; and carers who find themselves having to adjust to new roles and relationships.

Work-related issues such as compassion fatigue and burnout; also difficulties linked to professional boundaries and cultural or organisational change.

Supporting university students and staff who may be struggling with academic culture or pressures; and those who have recently left higher education and are feeling unsure about their next steps.

See 'my qualifications and training' for some of my additional training.
