About me
I offer a safe, supportive and non-judgemental environment in which you can discuss freely any problems or issues, with the aim of developing ways to overcome them.
As well as having considerable experience as a Person-Centred Counsellor, I am also a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is based on scientific principles that research has shown to be effective for a range of problems including; anxiety, depression, self-image, phobias, panic and post-traumatic stress disorder. It looks at the links between thoughts (cognitions), feelings and behaviour. In short, the way we think and feel influences the way we behave.
I am experienced in counselling adult clients from age 18 to age 80+. I have several years' experience of counselling university students from "freshers" to mature students. I also have a private practice where I see adult clients of all ages.
I believe that the relationship between counsellor and client (the "therapeutic relationship") is of paramount importance. My aim is to nurture this to create a feeling of comfort, trust and safety for each client.
I am an integrative therapist which means that I use approaches and ideas from several therapies, depending on the needs of the individual client. I always discuss with a client at the outset the approaches I may use, and I ensure that they are comfortable with the work that we do together by "checking-in" with them at regular intervals.
I offer both face to face and online counselling sessions. For online sessions, I use platforms that have secure end to end encryption.
My qualifications include:
Postgraduate Diploma of Higher Education in Counselling;
Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy;
Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management.
I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
