About me

Mr Andrea Volpin is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Woodlands Hospital in Darlington. He provides care to NHS, self-pay, and insured patients.
His main specialist interest lies in reconstructive and sports knee surgery, including:

- Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction
- Meniscal repair
- Complex multiligament reconstruction
- Knee preservation procedures.

He regularly treats amateur and professional athletes, with a strong focus on sports injury management, return-to-play strategies, and joint preservation techniques.

From 2020 to 2025, Mr Volpin held a substantive consultant post in soft tissue knee surgery and lower limb arthroplasty at NHS Grampian. Here, he delivered high-quality surgical care and contributed to service development in both reconstructive and joint replacement surgery.

Mr Volpin completed his medical degree and higher specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics at the University of Padua, Italy. He then undertook advanced training in the UK at University College London Hospitals and the Princess Royal University Hospital, part of King's College Hospital. This further refined his clinical and surgical expertise. To consolidate his sub-specialist expertise, he completed two prestigious fellowships:

- The first in complex soft tissue knee surgery and hip and knee arthroplasty at the Royal Derby Hospital
- The second in complex knee ligament reconstruction and knee arthroplasty at the Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospital.

In recognition of his clinical and academic dedication, Mr Volpin was awarded the prestigious EFORT Autumn Travelling Fellowship to the Netherlands in 2015. He subsequently undertook visiting fellowships in Vancouver (2022) and San Francisco (2025), enhancing his exposure to international best practices in orthopaedic surgery.

A committed academic, Mr Volpin has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and contributed to textbooks. These have had a particular focus on hip and knee surgery. He is also a regular presenter at national and international conferences, where he shares both clinical insight and research findings with the wider orthopaedic community.
