About me
My name is Andy Stevenson and I am a fully qualified and BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist working remotely from my office in Birmingham.
If you are reading this you're probably feeling quite stuck and frustrated, and I'd like to help. My approach is practical. During our sessions you can share with me your concerns and fears in a safe and confidential space, and I'll be on your side to get a better understanding of the problem. Next we'll make a plan to overcome it, implement that plan, and then have a 'maintaining progress' or 'relapse prevention' plan in place for you so that hopefully you do not need therapy again.
I use the most evidence-based approach (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and plan with you to resolve the problems as efficiently and quickly as possible.
The feedback I consistently get from my clients is that I am down-to-earth, practical and empowering, and I aim for my clients to leave therapy feeling more resilient, in control and 'tougher'.
I have worked in the NHS for the last 10 years, and prior to that, I have had extensive psychology training (BSc 1st Class Honours and MSc with Distinction), as well as specialist Cognitive Behavioural Therapy training. I have worked as a supervisor of other CBT practitioners for the past 4 years. I am also trained in EMDR.
My experience has meant that I have worked with a wide range of difficulties, such as Panic, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety, relationship problems and Phobias of various kinds. I've helped people from the age of 18 to 90+, from a wide range of backgrounds. There is very little I have not heard before, so if you feel nervous or ashamed about sharing your concerns then please be assured I have the utmost discretion and I won't judge you. My general assumption is that everyone is trying their best to cope in difficult circumstances.
I am an Accredited member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), which is the governing body for this form of therapy. This means I am bound by a code of professional practice and an ethical framework, similar to a doctor.
