About me

Dr Mkael Symmonds is a dual accredited Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Neurophysiologist.

He graduated from Oxford University Medical School in 2003, undertook general medical training in London, subsequently gaining a PhD in Neuroscience in 2011 from University College London, before undertaking postgraduate specialist training in Clinical Neurophysiology, Neurology and Sleep Medicine in centres in London and Oxford.

He took up his current post at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford in 2018. As a Clinical Neurophysiologist he undertakes diagnostic nerve conduction studies and electromyography for evaluation of neuromuscular disorders, as well as electroencephalography and polysomnography evaluations for the investigation of epilepsy and sleep disorders.

He leads the supra-regional Neurology Sleep Disorders service for the south-central region and is a specialist in non-respiratory sleep disorders and epilepsy, and also sees patients with general neurological disorders.

Since 2022 he has been the Training Program Director for Clinical Neurophysiology in Oxford.
