Dr Jayne Corson is a BPS Chartered and HCPC-registered Psychologist with extensive experience in forensic, clinical, and academic settings. She has held leadership roles within the NHS, including a clinical lead position overseeing psychological services across two London prisons, providing care for a diverse population with complex mental health needs. Her NHS experience spans forensic mental health services, including low and medium secure hospitals, acute and rehabilitation settings, and learning disability wards. Additionally, she has worked within HM Prison Services, delivering psychological interventions in various custodial environments, from high-secure to open prison settings. Dr Corson has also contributed to academia, serving as a university lecturer for BSc and MSc Forensic Psychology programmes and has provided psychological input within the Local Authority, Social Services, and Probation Services. Alongside her public sector roles, she has extensive experience working in the private sector, providing psychological interventions to individuals with complex mental health needs, including those with severe and enduring mental illness.
Furthermore, Dr Corson has expertise in assessing, evaluating, and providing professional reports on an individuals capacity to return to work following long-term illness, considering both psychological and functional factors in recovery and workplace reintegration.
Dr Corson adopts a trauma-informed approach to treatment, recognising that recovery is influenced by multiple factors, including individual differences, ethnicity, values, cultural background, and life experiences. She offers psychological assessments, therapy, and supervision, specialising in working with individuals presenting with a range of psychological difficulties, such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, OCD, personality disorders, addiction and substance misuse, self-harming behaviours, relationship difficulties, and anger management or emotional dysregulation. She has extensive experience working with individuals with mental illness, learning disabilities, and neurodiverse conditions, including assessing, diagnosing, and providing interventions for ADHD and autism.
Her clinical expertise includes the use of a variety of evidence-based therapeutic interventions. She is trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy EMDR, Narrative Therapy NT, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy DBT, Mentalization-Based Therapy MBT, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ACT, Compassion-Focused Therapy CFT, and Systemic and Family Therapies. She also specialises in working with individuals who present with harmful sexual and violent behaviours, including domestic violence.
Dr Corson holds a Cardiff University Law School Bond Solon Expert Witness postgraduate certification in Family and Criminal Law proceedings. She provides expert assessments and opinions on issues related to offending, violence, personality disorders, sexual offending, domestic violence, fire-setting, stalking, substance misuse, neurocognitive functioning, mental health, autism, ADHD, learning disability, trauma, suggestibility, malingering, and parental capacity. Her research interests focus on the development of personality disorders, particularly antisocial personality disorder, and the underlying psychological constructs that influence offending behaviour.
