About me

Fiona Paton is a Counselling Psychologist registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and Chartered by the British Psychological Society. She has extensive clinical experience of more than 20 years within the public, private and voluntary sectors. Within the NHS she has worked in multiple primary care settings across London as well as in specialist health psychology hospital positions. She is an experienced educator of adults and has lectured and taught in a number of UK universities.

Fiona recently returned from spending several years working overseas for International SOS, consulting for one of their major international client companies in an extreme and remote area of Indonesia. Her experience included working with expatriate individuals, couples and families living and working in extreme, highly charged, frequently changing and often dangerous conditions; facilitating group processes for diverse audiences, as well as working cross-culturally at an organisational level. Many years living and working in an unpredictable environment has led Fiona to develop a therapeutic style which is calm, relaxed, adaptable and highly responsive to change and individual needs.

Fionas work is integrative, drawing on a number of therapeutic approaches, based on established national clinical and organisational guidelines. She is passionate about providing a bespoke service, working collaboratively with clients and matching a clients needs to the most appropriate treatment, whilst working in a timely manner. She draws on cognitive behavioural therapy and solution-focussed therapy within a client-centred framework. Fiona is trained in the treatment of trauma using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) and has extensive experience working with trauma across a variety of settings from industrial accident and terrorism to sexual abuse and assault. She is also qualified in clinical hypnosis and draws on this approach as required.

Fiona works with clients across the lifespan with a wide range of clinical issues. She also provides individual life coaching for clients looking to realise personal and professional goals. She is passionate about empowering clients to become more resilient in our ever-changing world and to develop their own strengths to overcome future adversity. In addition Fiona has a particular interest in working with clients struggling with health difficulties. She has worked extensively in the field of psychosexual medicine and with survivors of rape and sexual abuse and has a gentle, respectful but practical approach to intimate issues.
