About me
Hi, I'm Dr. Aneesa Shariff and I believe that therapy should feel as routine as going to the dentist or seeing a personal trainer. You don't have to be mentally ill to seek professional help to work on your emotional wellbeing. I believe a supportive, collaborative, and respectful therapeutic relationship is the foundation for any positive change, and I aim to create a warm and empathic environment for my clients.
I am also passionate about using well researched, clinically proven therapy approaches and believe that positive change happens from a combination of insight and awareness into patterns of behaviour as well as learning healthier coping strategies. Therapy sessions with me are led by you and your needs, but also structured to help you get the most out of each session. A lot of change happens outside of the therapy room. I expect clients to work on the coping strategies or concepts discussed in between sessions, and commit to weekly sessions, as this is how therapy progresses faster and more effectively.
We begin with an initial assessment so I can get a better understanding of your current issues and the wider context of your life, as well as your hopes for therapy and the changes you want to make. We will then agree on a treatment plan and recommended estimate of sessions together so you will know what to expect. I believe that therapy works best when bespoke treatment plans are created that are personalised for each client and their unique situation.
In terms of training and experience, I worked for years in NHS senior specialist posts working into adult mental health, long term physical health conditions as part of a multidisciplinary team, and leading an occupational health psychology service. I have also worked as a media expert with various news outlets due to my research in culturally inclusive therapy.
